Plan has S.E.T. solutions, Space, Energy and Transportation, the main ingredients for a great city benefiting All Ireland. Dublin could be about to destroy itself due to rising cost, waste the big problem, lack of housing and no adequate public transport system. It’s about to add to these problems with radial Metro Link underground. If a major project is built that provides added advantages to any area it drives up costs and property is first hit, happens all over the world. This creates Valued Added Critical Costs that destroy a city by unnecessary driving up costs.
Our streets clogged with maintenance, use of too many buses going across city, too many users coming into the centre unnecessary to go back out again known as false/fake usage. City centre is small, space is scarce, businesses and social events must be protected and avoid buses and Luas obstructing each other. We continually have parades and protests and now they want to add civic Plazas, great in the right places but not when obstructing public transport. There are also several more Luas lines required for the city centre with Equal Cycling Priority ECP with vehicles and walking is needed with civic plazas and open spaces. All these can be done with an overall balanced integrated transport plan. Ad hoc or piecemeal planning must be avoided.
Rail. Very important in public transport usage due to big numbers it carries, speed and comfort. Its efficiency is extremely low at 50% due to the radial system likes spokes of a wheel. Full at morning peak inwards and empty at morning outwards and this reverses at evening peak.
Solution. One Rail line SET in right location is Dublin’s best solution, to save city, from rising costs, bad public transport and a choked city, With Balance as Key it benefits whole country with direct access to all areas, for work, leisure and appointments. Imbalance with Radial transport, major cause of waste, public transport can’t work effectively because of this as it requires extra staff and vehicles. Solved by orbital routing, choice, puts vehicles where needed.
Orbital is a circle replacing existing radial routing, gives users choice if one route out of order. The layout of city, buildings and existent transport were considered. Ireland is small, transport should facilitate more living in countryside, also for colleges. This is all part of a balanced plan. Nowadays with technology, early Airport flights and four day week with extra day off rotating makes a solution easier and simple. Few extra measures to avoid delays and allow city function. 1. Public transport avoids O Connell Bridge as much as possible to prevent protest delays etc. 2, Two options around the city if one out of order due to accidents or engineering works. 3. Trams sections in centre should have different power sources.
We have a great opportunity now. We can’t afford long delays with underground etc as a prolong delays and high risk could push Dublin over the edge from which it may never recover or take many extra decades to get back on track. Dublin is a sprawled city not suitable for underground to be effective. A segregated rail line is far more beneficial for a city like Dublin to allow for better balance population due to low density throughout the state, with new technology and suitable public transport and roads. This Newtown plan is designed to suit a country like Ireland. Missing rail line that links up Dublin’s network must be in right location (M50) otherwise useless. Makes no planning sense to force all rail users via centre when Dublin has expanded so much.
SET Plan. Space, in new towns. Energy, with wind solar sea. Transport, new orbital network. Choice 1. Metro Link underground or Choice 2 Metro Dart overground that links all Ireland, all Dublin with rail, all new towns directly to each other, to Dublin Airport, and to city centre, around Dublin for work vital and faster, serves all high usage venues, Self-finances, completed faster.
