Public Transport Inefficiency, False Usage, Creative Costs.

Efficiency is key in all forms of businesses and activities, to keep cost down, with direct access  and to maximise usage. Efficiency in public transport is vital to get the best results. There are  two main forms of movements the Radial system like spokes of a wheel and the orbital system  like a circle. Orbital system is the most efficient. Public transport is mainly radial to centres.  Efficiency is important in public transport as vehicles are very expensive, operations costs are  extremely high. This high cost prevents or delays public transport expansion to other areas and  must be addressed. False usage biggest inefficiency, and Creative Cost is the biggest expense.

False Usage. Where users who want to get to outskirts are taken unnecessary via city centre.

Duplication between all modes of transport. This is wasteful as they cover same area, very  common for buses in the city centre and covering same area as Luas mainly in the centre.

Working from home. Lesser usage on some days with same number of vehicles, big waste. Changing, unnecessary changing adds to delays that add to inefficiencies, big in rail network.

Inadaquate frequency. Not having required number of buses in right place to meet demand.  This results in users delayed by buses passing full, requiring too many buses in the wrong place.

Radial System, like spokes of a wheel, just under 50% efficient. This is due to users going  mainly one way into centre at morning peak, out at evening peak.

Cross city routes. This puts too many buses in wrong location, highest rate of bus inefficiency,  with almost all buses just completing only one full trip at peak times, instead of a possible two.

Traffic Lights. Non synchronisation of traffic lights adds to bus inefficiency especially on Quays. Traffic inefficiency. Main cause of inefficiency for bus and Luas.

Idle trains lines. Dublin has 3 rail lines with trains idle and 2 doubles rail lines also idle. Rail maintenance. Lines shut down due to required maintenance adds to inefficiency. Dead ends. Are inefficient for buses and dead ends in rail stations are also inefficient. Direct connections. The lack of direct connections also inefficient.

Break downs and out of service vehicles, if not addressed are also inefficient.  Imbalance, via centre. Too many services near the city centre.

Orbital Routes. Almost all orbital routes are inefficient due to low frequency. Staff Holidays and illness. Under present system a very high staff ratio is needed. Creative Costs or V. A. C, C. Value Added Creative Costs. This is Advantage waste, where a  system or area gets an extra advantage over another. The proposed Metro Link is an example  where this will happen. The value of property and land up to a kilometre on each side of the line  will dramatically rise in value, known as the golden mile. It is expected for every euro spent it will  take in almost two, sounds great but it is only fooling the citizens. Pushes up property prices,  especially housing that are already too expensive and undermines competitiveness. This won’t  happen with Metro Dart overground as no area gets an added advantage over another. These  difficulties are addressed with the main location of the one centre rail line for Newtown plan.
