Land Use and Transport are an integral part of transport planning. There are up to ten areas, that have land space to become new towns around Dublin. 1. Adamstown/Clonburris 2. Edge City. 3, North Dublin. 4. Portmarnock area, 5. Westman town. 6. Peamount/Baldonnell. 7. Hazelhatch. 8. Newcastle. 9. Southwest Dublin. 10. Local sections. These new towns have the potential for 250, 000 new homes, local businesses, employment schools, hospitals etc. This with extra housing in adjoining counties. All this puts additional pressure on the transport network. All these areas are close to a rail line; but nearly full due to radial system, so many rail lines idle and inefficiency of the existing rail network. Its ten rail lines that are needed to meet this demand. Fortunately, there is an opportunity that one rail line can do all this if built in right location. This is the missing rail link in Metro Dart 7A & 8 on map 3. Initially Donabate to Park West via Swords and Dublin Airport, then Firhouse Tallaght, Peamount and complete M50 rail orbital, with Navan line. Later motorway rail to Rathnew, Kildare and Dundalk. At present there are three lines with staff and trains idle, two double rail lines also idle, with little off peak usage. A massive amount of false usage, where users must go via centre unnecessary to go back out to their destination. This uses up vital capacity, adds to travel day, making rail inconvenient for work outside centre.
This one rail line in the right location along M50 can do work of ten lines because it is orbital, it allows users to go direct to any destination instead of forcing them all via the centre and leaves no rail lines in the city empty or unused. Most bus and rail lines connect with M50 orbital rail line and are already in place, further adding to the benefits of this one vital rail line. This transport plan can be completed quickly as only one line is required in right place. This changes the use of public transport from inefficient radial system to efficient orbital network serving ten times a wider area at ten times less cost, in a shorter time, revolutionising the use of public transport. . 5 major advantages of building the rail track in the best location. 1, In right location it has the potential to increase the usage of existing rail lines by 5-fold. If in wrong location it can halve efficiency of existing rail network. (location of new rail line is Key). 2. In best location it has potential to facilitate all work location and add additional rail lines. 3, Has potential to benefit all Ireland, aids student accommodation and movements. 4.Avoids Advantages Critical costs, most inexpensive of all, can be completed in shortest time. 5. Potential to accommodate 4-day week, home working and will eases (M50) traffic congestion. . 3 Major advantages of Metro Dart usage. Flexibility
1. It takes users direct to all destinations in and around Dublin, vital for work. Designing transport that all users must go via the city centre undermines public transport usage. 2.It takes users direct to Dublin Airport from all areas of Dublin and all Ireland with rail. 3. It creates potential for flexible working arrangements with early trains to Airport, as users for work can come in early and leave early for train usage to be more effective at off peak. . 3 Main flaws in existing public transport that choke capacity
1. Taking uses via city unnecessary. 2. Unused and under used rail (3 lines and 2 double lines). 3. Cross city routes, duplicates and puts too many buses in wrong location. Built in delays to get bus back on time and Unreliability by not linking up. connecting routes have no linking up times. Principles.1 Movement is direct. 2. Put all in best place 3. Solving problem don’t create another. The M50 would have coped if it was a full circle or orbital. By lacking the circle concept many users must travel much longer, some travel up to two and half times more. New Towns in Dublin by availing of 15- minute city can be more self- contained, viable with direct access. Without the one rail line in Key location, new towns and Dublin city will find it difficult to function effectively. Newtown plan, Fast Frequent Flexible FFF, addresses public transport unreliability, main flaw.
